How To Root Mi A2 (Mi 6X) – Root process is the way to make you a superuser, its mean you can do whatever things that previously blocked by some permissions. You can add anything or remove anything, but of course with some risk involved. So at this time, I will make an article to show you an instruction to root your Mi A2 (Mi 6X). You can download a necessary file down below. 

Xiaomi finally inaugurated the middle-class smartphone ” Mi 6X ” in China. This smartphone will be present in variant of Android One with name “Mi A2” for global market. In terms of design, Mi 6X is made of aluminum unibody like its predecessor. An antenna line is positioned on the top and bottom side, while the fingerprint scanner is found on the side of the back.

The dual camera module is mounted vertically on the left side, resembling Redmi Note 5 Pro. Mi 6X (Mi A2) is fairly narrow with a thin body, weighing only 166 grams with a dimension of 158.9 x 75.9 x 7.6 mm.

Turning to the specification sector, the Mi 6X (Mi A2) is pretty robust with the Snapdragon 660 chipset from Qualcomm. There are several choices of storage and RAM that can be tailored to the needs. How To Install TWRP on Xiaomi Mi A2 (Mi 6X)

Before we started this root process, you should make sure your Mi A2 (Mi 6X) is already unlocked. If your Mi A2 is not unlocked yet, you can visit here to unlock bootloader Mi A2 (Mi 6X).


TWRP itself is a custom recovery to not only give rooting for your Android, but it’s also a place to flash another ROM or mod for your phone. Now, if you’re sure already unlocked your Mi A2 (Mi 6X), then download the necessary file below.

Now follow this step to start proceeded.

STEP #1. Activate USB Debugging in your phone. Here is how to do it:

  • Open Setting, scroll down until you found “About Device”.
  • Now find “MIUI Version” and tap it 7 times until notification showed that indicated Developer Mode has been activated.
  • Back to Settings again.
  • This time, look for “Additional Settings” and find  “Developer mode”.
  • After you found it, make sure to activated “USB Debugging Mode”

STEP #2. Extract the TWRP file that have you downloaded then install Minimal ADB Fastboot. Now copy file twrp-mia2.img to C:\Program Files (x86)\ Minimal ADB and Fastboot.

After that, copy file and SuperSU or Magisk to your sdcard or USB OTG (Note: don’t copy this file to your internal storage, you need an external sdcard or USB OTG).


STEP #3. Reboot your Mi A2 (Mi 6X) to fastboot mode (First turn off your phone and press and hold volume down and power button together for 7 second). Release the buttons if your screen turn to fastboot mode like this one.

STEP #4. After you succeed to enter fastboot mode, connect your phone to PC using USB cable. You should use an original or at least good quality USB to avoid any circumstance.

STEP #5. Now open Minimal ADB Fastboot and type this command:

fastboot flash recovery twrp-mia2.img

STEP #6. Now reboot your Mi A2 (Mi 6X) with this command:

fastboot boot recovery twrp-mia2.img

Congratulation, at this point you have successfully install TWRP on your Mi A2 (Mi 6X). Now you must follow another instructions to finally root your Mi A2 (Mi 6X).


How To Root Xiaomi Mi A2 (Mi 6X)

Now I’ll assume that you have installed TWRP on your phone and now you are at TWRP screen. Now follow the next step to root your Xiaomi Mi A2 (Mi 6X).

STEP #1. At first, you maybe noticed that your phone asking for password that you never created and thus make you freaking out. But just relax, you only need to click “Cancel” and viola!, TWRP finally open.

STEP #2. Now after finally open, TWRP will ask your permission to modified system, then you should give the TWRP a required permission.

STEP #3. After finally showed up, choose “Install” and maybe you will surprised that your internal storage became 0, but once again you don’t need to worry. Now you must put your external sdcard or your USB OTG to your phone. Go back to TWRP menu and choose “Reboot > Recovery” and wait until phone reboot to recovery, means reboot to TWRP.


STEP #4. After TWRP open, once again choose “Install” and now “Select Storage” and choose sdcard or USB OTG depends on what you’re using. Then search that you have copied before, flash it then back to back to TWRP menu and select Reboot > Recovery.

STEP #5. Now, once again check your internal storage, if it’s still show as 0 then you must Wipe it by using Wipe menu and select Data. You must wipe to make your internal storage back again.

STEP #6. If your internal storage is back to normal again, it’s time for you to install SuperSU or Magisk from your external sdcard or USB OTG. To do it, you must back to TWRP menu and choose Install just like flash Noverity file before.

Also don’t forget to install again if your storage is 0 and you already Wipe it.


After all process completed, you can finally reboot your Mi A2 (Mi 6X) to system. But reminder that this time, a reboot time will be a little longer than usual, its normal anyway. But if it’s turns out that your phone is bootloop, you can try to flash Xiaomi Mi A2 (Mi 6X). See you next time.
